Contribution Post

I designed my flat plan, cover, TOC, and articles myself and I wrote them myself, as well. I did every part of the product and got every idea from myself. All of the pictures I used were taken and edited by me in the way I felt that they fit best. I formatted everything in either Adobe Lightroom or Microsoft Publisher. All final decisions were made by me and I am the sole creator of the magazine. I give thanks to Ethan for allowing me to take pictures of him for my magazine and appearing on the latest edition of Fleur Sombre.

Midterm Submission

For the cover page of the magazine, I used a picture that is bright and vibrant to draw attention to the readers. I stuck with a blue theme in all of the my magazine to create a subtle, masculine look that doesn't overwhelm the reader. The white font stands out and keeps the relaxed feeling of it. I used dark font against the lighter background with a low behind it to make it easier to read.

For the table of contents, I had the picture of Ethan peer from the edge of the page and had him looking at the major articles in the magazine. I put a border around the table of contents to make it bolder for the reader. I used the font called "Garamond" throughout the magazine because I felt it has a very masculine and aloof vibe to it. It is easy to read and still stands out.

For my article, I wrote about the fashion of hoodies. I incorporated pictures of Ethan wearing a specific hoodie and talked about why he likes it and why people should get it. I then compared that hoodie to what else is out there and what brands have the best hoodie for the reader. I dive into the history of hoodies and how their style has changed throughout the years. I continued with the theme of blues and the font of Garamond.

Magazine Interview

For my interview, I thought I should use my group partner, Ethan, as well. He is a very stylish person and knows a lot about style and brands. The article in particular that I interviewed him for had to deal with the style of hoodies. I asked him questions about what he looks for in a hoodie and what brands he likes. He gave his opinions on hoodies and and how he feels that they are part of the new wave of style. The answers are important because they come from the younger generation and they show how the times are changing and what is hot right now.

Magazine Photo Shoot

I photographed my group partner, Ethan Evans. I chose him because I find his style is simple, yet effective. This is exactly the kind of essence I want to capture in my article, so I felt like he was the perfect person for the job. We rented a Cannon DSLR to take the pictures and we met after school one evening to the take the pictures. I had him pose in both vertically and horizontally framed photos to have pictures for the cover and for the article. I took some pictures in flash to accentuate his features and make him pop out on the page. 

Magazine Photo Scouting

For our magazine photos, we chose to take pictures at the top of the Westin in downtown Sarasota and under the Ringling Bridge, also in Sarasota. We chose the top of the Westin because the overcast sky provided a perfect background and contrast between my subject and the sky. The pier under the Ringling Bridge was chosen because of the beautiful water paired with the sunset sky. The water created a unity to the photos and made the subject stand out. Pictures from both settings were taken although the pictures from the top of the Westin better fit the article.

Magazine Flat Plan

We decided to name our magazine: "Fleur Sombre" which means "dark blossom" in French. We wanted to choose a cool and masculine phrase for our magazine and we felt it sounded the coolest in French. Our magazine is hindered around men's style and celebrities in pop culture. Assuming we could actually interview him, our issue would predominantly talk about the rapper Tyler, The Creator. Along with the celebrities, we talk about men's health products and style products for the reader.
