Magazine 5: Esquire

Esquire is a perfect example to model my magazine after. Esquire is a men's fashion magazine that features the style of celebrities and the best pieces of clothing to own. In many ways it is similar to GQ. Not only is it just for fashion, but it offers some news stories as well as entertainment and dining. I really like the cover of the George Clooney edition of Esquire.  The cartoonish font around Clooney ties in his smile for a happy tone. The orange compliments the black and makes the art go together.

Magazine 4: Slam Magazine

I chose Slam Magazine because they are always a very current magazine in the sports world. They always are on top of new and interesting stories. The often make big stories about young athletes before they get big, such as NBA players just entering college.  The cover here is very minimalist with a white background and Jason Tatum's face at the forefront. The name of the magazine is still able to be read but it provides Tatum as the main focus of the cover.

Magazine 3: Sports Illustrated

I'm including Sorts Illustrated in my magazines because I want to have a sports section with stories from all sports in my magazine. I will include both scores from important games and articles providing analysis on athletes and games. I also like how the colors on the magazine go with the theme or team that is being displayed on the cover. I look to achieve this clean look on my magazine.

Magazine 2: Fader

The second magazine that models my idea is Fader magazine. Fader covers music, style, and culture, all of which I'm trying to achieve in mine. I want  my magazine to be a men's magazine, but also talk about culture and music. In a way it can a magazine for many people, but it would cater heavily to men's needs.

Magazine 1: GQ

The first magazine I want to model my magazine after is GQ. I want to cater mainly to men about style, men's products, and sports. I chose the Kendrick Lamar cover because i enjoy his music as well as his style. He is a big artist and celebrity at the moment and he is a perfect person to cover for the magazine. The cover of Kendrick is the camera shot I want to accomplish on my magazine, as well. I want to the cover person to be dressed stylish and to be doing an action like he is holding a microphone. I'm going to edit the person in front of the name of the magazine like Kendrick is in front of the GQ.

Decision

After weighing both sides, I think I would want to do the magazine part of the project. I think the magazine would be both the more fun and the easier option to do. I fell like it would be more fun to do the magazine option because I like the layout and look of magazines like GQ and Sports Illustrated. My goal is to try to create a magazine to that effect while keeping my own creativity to it. Also, since I'm involved in extracurricular activities including clubs and basketball, time might be a constraint for filming. By doing the magazine, as long as I have access to a computer, I can continue to develop the magazine. I realize that I will need to get pictures for my magazine, but it is more time friendly than the film option. After comparing both sides, I think the best option for me has to be the magazine option. A possible film could be in the future, but for this project I'm choosing to do the magazine.

Project Selection: Magazine

Print Journalism has become more interesting to me since watching "All the President's Men" and "The Newsroom." Before watching "All the President's Men," I didn't know what went on behind the scenes with journalists. Now that I see all the work that goes into getting interviews and statements from people, it gives me a new respect for what journalists do. I used to think people who work in newspapers would just hear about stories and report them. It surprised me how much research and sleuthing they do depending on the case. "The Newsroom" showed me the behind-the-scenes of reporting the news. Again, it showed me all of the work that goes into one 1-hour newscast. The process of journalism and reporting news seems interesting to me. I would like to be on the phone like Woodward and Bernstein trying to fit the puzzle pieces together to publish. This is why I would be interested in doing the magazine option of the project.

Project Selection: Film

From watching "All the President's Men" and the making of "Ferris Beuller" in class, I've come to have more of an appreciation for film making. The upside to doing the film project would be to control everything I'd want to have present in the film. As the writer and producer, I would get to pick the actors/actresses I would feel best suit the characters. Not only that, I would get to tell the actors how I would want them to act out the scene. I think it would be fun to do this because it would be like the thoughts I had while writing the script would come to life. The downsides to this is that I would have to coordinate the shooting of the film. With basketball season coming up along with the amount of homework I have, I might not have time to shoot the film. Also, I don't have any of the equipment to shoot the film so I would need to purchase these items. In the case of the film project, I feel like the cons outweigh the pros. Therefore, I think the film project wouldn't be the best option for me.

Final Submission

I haven't changed anything on my cover since Quarter 3 and I'm happy with they way it ended up looking. All fonts, colors, and pic...
